CNC Capabilities – Knife Cutting and CNC Routing, Ideal for Prototyping

Thanks to I.G. Marston’s  ongoing innovation and specialized CNC capabilities, many clients come to us for small-run, non-metallic custom washers, gaskets, and other special shapes.

Non-Metallic Components for Prototyping and Small-Volume Manufacturing

We understand the unique timelines and production issues our prototyping customers face, and we are perfectly positioned to help with precision parts, quick turnaround, and experience in crafting custom parts from specialty non-metallic materials. Our CNC capabilities include a knife cutting machine and routing, particularly good for tough or difficult materials.

CNC Machining of Specialty, Non-Metallic Materials

I.G. Marston produces custom washer, gaskets and special shapes out of a wide array of materials – and many of those require precise CNC machining. The types of material we work with most often are rubber and specialty rubber compounds, gasketing fibres, vulcanized fibre, plastics (including Nylon, PTFE, Delrin/Acetal, HDPE),  plastic films (like polyester, polyimide) – just to name a few.

Industries Served

IGM services an eclectic customer base, which keeps things interesting. Some of the industries we currently serve include: automotive, aerospace, electronics, medical, mechanical, industrial, regulators, and pump and valves.

CNC Equipment Reduces Wait-Time for Samples, Allows More Rapid Prototyping

Our newest piece of CNC equipment allows us to have even more capabilities! We can cut a part as large as 60” x 117” in any virtually any specialty shape, often with no tooling or setup charges. CNC machining is ideal for producing prototypes and samples to client specifications, quickly – even those that require extra care and tighter tolerances.

Our experience and equipment means we can adjust a program to provide the exact cut specified, without the need to send out for new or updated tooling. And small runs are no problem – our CNC routing capabilities include working with those thicker, tougher materials that our clients often need only a few pieces made from.

We work with clients who have such needs and save them time, money and material.

Washers are our specialty – but we used the CNC to make this sign. We think it turned out fine!

To meet our customers’ requirements in the most cost-effective manner possible, we rely on our experience to determine the best method to create each item. Typically, we use a manual die cutter for softer materials for small volume parts with more liberal tolerances in sizes up to 20” x 60,” and  automated die cutting presses for higher volume production and pieces that require varying cutting speeds and multiple cavities. We know quality and timeliness are equally important, and our experience gives us the edge in both producing quality items to our clients’ specifications and in meeting all-important delivery dates.
